The Day That'll Never Be The Same Again.
Apr. 30th, 2009 06:46 pmA car has crashed into a crowd watching a parade involving Dutch Queen Beatrix and her family, killing four people and seriously injuring several others.
The car eventually careered into a monument, narrowly missing an open-topped bus carrying the royals.
To think this day started off so well. Watched a bit of the Queen's tour through Apeldoorn, lolled at the Princes antics during their participations in organised sports events, then hurriedly left for the trainstation to meet up with [info]yffie to go to Amsterdam.
During our walk through Amsterdam, the horrible events at Apeldoorn happened. I only found out when I came home just past 3pm.
Shock. Speechless.
This is our day of celebration, a day when we go out and act silly in our Orange costumes, whether we actually like the Royal Family or not. It's a day we Dutchies show our Patriotism/Nationalism(though not in a WRONG way). On this day we feel (extra) proud to be Dutch.
And now this. Some sick bastard drove through two barriers, running over/KILLING people in the process, with the intention of hitting the open bus that carried nearly our entire Royal Family. People were flying through the air. Young children where there to witness the horrors.
For fuckssake. Why are some people so incredibly SICK?!
