STAR TREK.

HOW GOOD?!
"...I think it would be wonderful years from now to see Star Trek come back with an equally talented new cast playing Spock and Kirk and Bones and Scotty and all the rest, as they say tomorrow's things to tomorrow's generations..." - Gene Roddenberry
Wow. Seriously. Wow. I don't even know where to begin. I didn't really expect J.J. Abrams to pull it off, but he did. Star Trek lives. Granted, it is different. But it lives. And it is kicking ass. The SFX was absolutely gorgeous <3333
Ok, so I had a couple of moments where I got all teary-eyed with nostalgia. I grew up watching TOS, TNG, DS9 and Voyager (I was already grown up with Enterprise ;), so I guess I can be qualified as something of a Trekkie. Seeing the Enterprise again? There were some tears. Seeing Leonard Nimoy? Tears. The "Space, the final frontier" speech + pimped old intro at the end? Tears.
LEONARD NIMOY. OH. BE STILL MY BEATING HEART. No one can do the "Live Long and Prosper" better than he does. And poor Zachary paled in comparison and I couldn't help but go all "braaaaaaaaaains" a couple of times with him, hee. Poor Old!Spock though, just like Kirk he's going to die out of his own timeline.
Best revamped character? Karl Urban's Bones. Without a doubt he was the most convincing. He even did the classic McCoy poses ♥ and the snark! I missed the snark :)
Chris Pine does a mighty fine Kirk, especially his voice! Very yummy to look at too ;) But uhum, from Cadet to Captain in one frigging day? That was a bit, easy. Really now J.J.
Chekov mostly came across like an idiot with the overly thick Russian accent, but I suppose because he's still young, his accent will too mature with age and get to the point where he was in TOS ;)
Haven't seen enough of Sulu and Uhura! Sulu's foldable sword was awesome though. Uhura needs something to do other than be Spock's clingy girlfriend.
SIMON PEGG'S SCOTTY <33333333333 That's all ;)
THE REFERENCES TO TOS OMG. The Kobayashi Maru scene in particular!!!! I flailed loads.
Did anyone else go "There's always a bigger fish" with the two monsters on Delta Vega? ;D There was also Darth Vader breathing when they dove towards the platform and at one point the music was about to turn into the Imperial March!
Greg Grunberg was in it! Well, his voice was rofl. But J.J. and Greg are still total BFFs ;) That Felicity chick was in it too.
Only WTFness were Winona Ryder (was she really necessary?), THE DESTRUCTION OF PLANET VULCAN, WHAT..... and Spock/Uhura. Though I suspect the latter two were mostly a mindfuck directed at us Trekkies? lol. Though with Spock/Uhura, who knows. Maybe they dated for a while and then broke and then she gets it on with Kirk afterall? *winks* Though this is AU now, which gives them the excuse to change loads ;)
All we need now for the next movie is a better plot. Eric Bana's Nero wasn't really the villain I thought he would be, which is a pity. Then again, the lack of proper plot was just fine because the most imporant factor of this movie was getting re-acquainted with version 2.0 of the characters, with special focus on the OT3 of Kirk/Spock/McCoy.
I'm not sure how I'd feel about a TWOK remake. There would be loads of pressure on whoever would get picked as Kahn 2.0. TWOK still is my favourite Star Trek movie.
I definitely want to see this film again!
